A masterclass with Martin Reeves, chairman of the BCG Henderson Institute

Participation is limited to 30 Residents

We need imagination now more than ever—to find new opportunities, rethink our businesses, and discover paths to growth. Yet too many companies have lost their ability to imagine. What is this mysterious capacity? How does imagination work? And how can organizations keep it alive and harness it systematically? In this Resident-only masterclass, chairman of the BCG Henderson Institute, Martin Reeves, will share exclusive insights from his new book, The Imagination Machine.

Drawing on the experience and perspectives of CEOs across several industries, as well as lessons from neuroscience, computer science, psychology, and philosophy, The Imagination Machine provides a fascinating look into the mechanics of imagination and lays out a six-step process for creating ideas and bringing them to life.

The Assumption of Longevity

Hosted by our partners, The Coterie

Does the assumption of living to old age need to die?

Join beloved dharma teacher, journalist and author Catherine Ingram and master storyteller and spiritual activist Stephen Jenkinson as they address themes of uncertainty, presence, the spell of future fantasies, and the erroneous assumption of “guaranteed time.”

With average lifespans in most first world countries reaching into the seventies and eighties for the past few decades, many Western cultures have lived with never-before expectations of longevity.

House Residents can join for free by registering at the non-member price. Please email us for details.

A More Literate World

We have to take reading more seriously. Over her extraordinary career, scholar and teacher Maryanne Wolf, director of the Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners, and Social Justice, and author of multiple books, including Reader, Come Home, has shown persuasively that so much of what we enjoy in society—from companionship to critical thinking to democracy itself—is nurtured by deep reading.

Over the course of an in-depth conversation with Maryanne Wolf and with special guest Ella Berthoud, bibliotherapist at the international School of Life, we will explore the inner workings of our reading brain, the fringes of business jargon, and how to properly understand the changes that digital mediums are forcing on us individually and collectively. Hosted by Megan Hustad and Tim Leberecht.

A Resident-only masterclass by House community partner TheDive
Participation is limited to 15 Residents

How can we shape organizations as living systems, rather than functional, abstract structures? What's the right dose of hierarchy and self-organization, and how much leadership and process is necessary to thrive and sustain over time?

In our first masterclass, hosted by our community partner and Berlin Chamber host TheDive, you will get your hands dirty. Put your philosophical reflections aside and get started with concrete methods, tools, and processes, following “The Loop Approach,” an overarching framework that puts the “how” into practice.

  • Dive deeply into “The Loop Approach”
  • Learn about 7 virtues of effective organizations and their models
  • Gain insights into exercises that help shape new behavioral patterns and a reflective mindset within your team
  • Exchange with fellow Residents to learn from another

May Resident Circle: Returning to Work (Option 2)

Resident Circle

With vaccinations underway in more and more countries, we are ready to go back to work—or are we? A recent study by the WHO and ILO found that (too much) work can actually kill you. Burnout has become even more common during the pandemic. And we may in fact never return to work unless our work and organizations become nomadic. Under which conditions will you (want to) return to work?

In our May Resident Circle, you are invited to discuss the immediate future of work in our Resident townhall, hear updates from or join House Work groups, and spend some quality time with fellow Residents via (co-)listening exercises.
