Dance or Die?
Born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Damascus, Ahmad Joudeh started dancing at age eight and at 16 joined the Syrian ballet company, Enana Dance Theater. In 2016, after his home was bombed and five family members were killed, he was invited to move to Amsterdam when Dutch National TV reported his story. His memoir Dance or Die details his journey, as does a documentary by the same name. Now a citizen of the Netherlands, Ahmad dances across Europe, and uses his art to direct attention to stateless refugees.
