Make a Move

Dance was among the professions hit hardest by the coronavirus and physical distancing. At the same time, many choreographers and ballet companies seized the pandemic as a creative challenge and launched new formats offline and online, from immersive “parcours” to video vignettes. What can we learn about our bodies and organizations from how ballet dancers and their companies are coping with the pandemic?

This session was all about dance: we watched dance performances, talked about dance, and even dance ourselves, pushed the boundaries of Zoom and explored intimacy and beauty in the physical-digital realm.

Streamed live from the Stuttgart Ballet, Make a Move featured the dancers and choreographers Louis Stiens from the Stuttgart Ballet; Irina Lerman, formerly with the Mariinsky Ballet in Saint Petersburg and currently a guest soloist at the Atlantic Ballet of Canada; Xavier Carmo and Henriett Ventura from the Companhia Nacional de Bailado (CNB), the National Ballet Company of Portugal—and you.
